Japanese Craft

The Arts and Crafts movement is a reform movement inspired by the writings of John Ruskin and a romantic idealization of the pride of the craftsmen in their personal work. It was at its peak between 1880-1910. In the United States, the U.S. terms craftsman or artisan-style often used to describe the style of architecture, interior design and decorative arts that prevailed between the dominant eras of Art Nouveau and Art Deco or roughly from 1910 to 1925.

The Arts and Crafts movement in the background began as an authentic and meaningful way to the 19th century and a reaction to the eclectic revival styles of the Victorian era and the "no soul and no heart" styles of machine-made industrial revolution. Given that the machinery is the fundamental cause of all repetitive and mundane evils, some of protagonists of this movement became totally out of use machinery and crafts, which tend to concentrate their productions in the hands of sensitive customers, but the rich.

In 1861, the Arts and Crafts earned his "greatest support when Morris founded Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co., a furniture design and accessories Decorative company time stressed secular knowledge and natural materials. The timing was perfect, in 1862, the International Exhibition in London never filed before seen Japanese arts and crafts, which had an immediate effect on the design. England quickly fell in love with this new look and began paying the layers of clutter Victorian houses.

Ruskin also preached that the work must be gay – an idea that has been lost in the growing number of factory workers who spent long hours in poor working conditions. This noble idea has its roots in the past, when his work was his life and has become one of the basic principles of the Movement.

The Arts and Crafts is soon extinguished, but influential conveyed the idea that craft and creativity can never be overwhelmed by the arrival of machinery and technology.

This traditionally handmade PI paper is made of mulberry tree* fibers for crafting and brush painting. Medium thickness, it is very tough and hard-wearing as lamp cover and other paper crafting material. it is absorbent but does not smear that much as a good brush painting paper. I would recommend this beautiful paper to sumi-e students and all watercolorists to collect and give it a try. *Mulber...
